Noticed the Google logo made with Lego?

Google Lego

Have you noticed Google logo in Google’s main page recently? It has this image made of some Lego blocks. Google has always had this fondness towards Lego blocks. One of their first computer were ‘modded’ from imitation Lego blocks. Those things that made up some sort of special theme or character on the Google logo’s are called ‘Doodle’. It was first used when Larry and Sergey went to this annual ‘Burning Man’ festival. It’s like a Silicon Valley techie’s and geeks, artists, anarchists, intellectual and whole other groups place to get out of the normal routine. There were drugs, art displays and the likes. The place was held in Nevada’s Black Rock Dessert. It was like a more cultured Woodstock I might say. Buying and selling was forbidden except for a cafe that dispense only coffee and ice. Folks usually bring a weeks supply to this place.

The first Doodle

Anyway, why is it called burning man? They burn a really huge wooden figure 40 feet high. That’s the highlight of the event actually. So before the Google founders head to this place, they experimented on their early Google website by incorporating a rendering of the Man in the second ‘O’ of Google. Folks who saw it for the first time had mixed remarks of course. There are those who thought it was crude and they go like “what the hell?” but for those who knew about the Burning Man festival, they knew exactly where the two were headed to.

I’m currently reading this awesome book called the google story by David A. Vise. It opened up a whole new understanding on this two brilliant PhD students from Stanford University in computer science. Their motto of ‘Don’t be evil’ has somewhat become their main ingredients for success I believe.

Bought a new Yamaha PSR E403 electronic keyboard

Yep. Got it on Sunday evening at the Yamaha store in Subang Parade. I was seriously considering a Yamaha PSR700 which is an ‘arranger’. After seeing the price tag of that PSR700 of $4k ++, I decided to go for the medium level one first. It’s not really a very serious keyboard. Still pretty much for home use but the sound quality and the touch response is good. So I hope to make at least some good music from this baby..well let’s see lah.

Sayang Kinabalu-Acapella Version

I came across Gurangak’s blogpost on this group called Infinatez with their rendition of ‘Sayang Kinabalu’ a well known song in Sabah sung originally by Kimin Mudin and written by his brother Asmin Mudin. Check it out at his blogpost.

I would say it’s fresh, entertaining and catchy. I enjoyed it. Well check it out before he take the song out of his flash player.

Cheers folks. Off to church now.
