Rock Climbing @ Damai, Batu Caves

Batu Caves ClimbingAfter doing wall climbing indoors for so many months, I finally get the chance to try out climbing on an actual rock. Last Saturday together with a few climb buddies, we hooked up with another group of friends who had experience with doing rock climbing. My verdict?

It was awesome! The climb was not that hard however you are dealing with limestone rock. The surface and lines are natural so you will not get consistent flat wall like in the indoor climbing gym. You are facing jagged edge, dirt, birds on the rock ledge flying off, falling debris and more. The feeling is different. Chances of getting hurt is also high because if you were to fall, even with the belay rope attached to you, you can still be in danger due to the uneven rock surface. It’s more of you fighting with your own spirit if you will.

But it’s all good. I think at a height of about 30 meters there was this small cave where we can sit on the edge while waiting for the rest to come up. The view was nice. When you looked down, you just can’t believe that you have made it up this high. We even learn how to belay ourselves down.

On another note, I really need a good climbing pants. The ones I have currently don’t allow me to stretch as maximum as I can. I’m not into those tight yoga pants. Hope to get something from the Prana brand. I heard they are good.
