Ayam penyetnya tidak sehebat yang kusangka

Today afternoon I had the ‘Ayam penyet’ (Smashed chicken??). It’s actually an Indonesian cuisine. Javanese I think. I forgot the name of the restaurant. It was somewhere in Subang near to the place where there is this shop that Buys and sells second hand goods. I don’t mean to reduce their customers but this is all based on my experience eating there.

I have been wanting to try those dishes. My expectation was high. I was hungry I mean super hungry. Ayam penyet sounds like an awesome way to feed our hunger I told my partner. So we stopped at the next shop that has ‘Ayam Penyet’ signage. We ordered 4 types of dishes. Some Asam fish, the ayam penyet offcourse, sup ekor and some brinjal thingy. I have to say everything tasted very bland. The ayam penyet tsted just like a normal ayam goreng but thinner since it’s ‘smashed’?? Nope. Did not really enjoyed my meal. But I have to say their choice of drinks tasted better. I love the Indonesian avocado ice blended stuff. Really nice.

I don’t have pictures of it because I did not bother to take some snapshots. But I saw this car that looked like an old mattress.

Got worms?

vermicompostSince I have been working nights for a very long period, I find that eating out (which I frequently do during my day time stints) is no longer a normal activity. Reason being is that I spend loads of time resting during the day at home. I don’t find getting down from the apartment very interesting especially when I need every inch of my energy for the night duties.

Slowly but surely I had to start preparing food for myself. And believe me, I feel like a housewife watching all these Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray and what not. But I have learned really valuable stuff about eating healthy. Yeah, I knew eating fresh and organic food was supposed to be good. Only after preparing meals on my own I can see the difference or should I say taste the difference.

And now I have a new project, making my own vermicompost! If you want to know what this is here’s a little info:

Vermicompost, or Vcompost, is the heterogenous mixture of decomposing vegetable or food waste, bedding materials, and pure vermicast produced during the course of normal vermiculture operations. Vermicast, similarly known as worm castings, worm humus or worm manure, is the end-product of the breakdown of organic matter by some species of earthworm.

The species we have in Malaysia are mostly the ‘Tiger Worms’ or Eisenia Fetida. Others also include the ‘Red Earth Worms’ Lumbricus Rubellus. They are on sale now for between RM200-Rm400 per Kg. I think I will like these worms more. They are gold I tell you!

Working nights actually gives me a lot of time

When I tell people I work nights, a lot of them will go like “Wah! Can tahan ah?” (Wow! can you cope?) The first 2 days was hard of course since your body is trying to adjust. But once you get the session going, it’s actually better than working day time. First of all, there’s almost no such thing as being stuck in a jam. Going to work , I can speed all the way. Same as coming back in the morning. My opposite direction is always in a bumper-to-bumper situation. My weekends are somewhat longer…and there are times when my rest period will be longer in betweens.

Today, I have time to ‘cook’. So far, by the time I write this blog post, I am still alive.
