Food Experience #13 (Special Appearence-Maya Karin)

The entrance

On Tuesday, a group of us from the office went out to have a berbuka puasa (break of fast) with our fellow Muslim colleagues. We chose the Concorde Kuala Lumpur since it’s just nearby from the place we work.

What you will see when you walk in

Concorde is located just next to Hard Rock K.L. So those of you who dine at the Concorde, there will be plenty of fun after words :D This is my first time dining at Concorde’s ‘Melting Pot’ cafe. They do receive lots of great reviews from the media.

All the boys walked here, my boss and two other female colleagues came by car. We arrived rather early. Since there was so much time, I walked around the buffet line to check out what’s in store for us. The spread looks gorgeous. However as a Malaysian who are more accustomed to a very big spread of food when it comes to this type of settings, one may feel that the spread is somewhat not that ‘much’. I saw lamb, some tepanyaki section, local cuisines, oysters and stuff as well as a beautiful spread of dessert section.

The Batak strollers

By before 7pm (break of fast is at 7:15pm), our table was already filled with plates of food. Even the desserts were not spared, they took everything! Our table looked like another buffet spread… I was not really hungry yet since I had late lunch earlier.

The fish I missed out..

I like the entertainment provided. They have this ‘Batak Strollers’. They are from Indonesia. Visiting each table and asking if there was any special song requests. I asked for ‘Dahil Sayo’ a Phillipino song which they can’t play. So I asked for the song ‘Cantik’ made popular by Katon Bagaskara. They can’t play the song either. Oh well, in the end they played their own choice which was nice too. There was a few ‘dangdut’ numbers too. Great harmony from these guys. I love em.

Me and Maya just loved the limelight..he he..

Oh but did I tell you who was dining in nearby? The beautiful Maya Karin of course, a local artist. I don’t know much about her but I know she acted in some horror film (kind of a Malaysian hit) and also have produced a music album?? But she sure is gorgeous. She was sitting with a group of people. I can see that they must be some crew or something. Another popular face was Fasha Sandha (not sure if I got the spelling correctly). I only knew about her after a colleague told me. She’s alright too. In fact they were both alright and even took some snapshots with us. Yummy! I did ask Maya whether or not she comes here regularly. She answered no. Only when they have some ’shooting’ or something..I did not hear those last few words from her anyway..

This bunch can really eat!

My personal verdict, Concorde’s Melting Pot is really a nice and cozy place to dine. Friendly staffs and great food, combined with a snazzy atmosphere, it sure is value for the money. By the way, we spent like almost RM1000.00 today. Phew!

Eating without cutleries

I’m not sure about you folks in the USA. Here in this multi-racial ‘free’ country, many races do practice eating with hands. We have the Indians and Malays mostly. I do see some other races in Sabah that also practice eating with hands. Of course, before modernization came to Sabah, I’m very sure we were all pretty much eating with our bare hands as well.

What about the rest? Are you guys comfortable eating this way? I have no problem. In fact I find the experience very appealing. I somewhat feel more satisfied eating that way. Especially when my rice is filled with lot’s of gravy! I wonder if folks from the Pennsylvania bed and breakfast has customers doing the same?

Food Experience #12

For you folks who are living in Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya area in Malaysia. I’m sure most of you have visited (or at least tried?) IKEA? yeah, the simple, compact, space efficient home furnishing folks. I’m not posting about their furniture though. Although I love walking around their huge place with all the furnishing ideas ready for you try. Sit on them, lie on the bed, swing the chair etc..it’s fun!

So after a tiring day what will happen to a hard working man? He goes hungry. What better place than the Ikea restaurant itself. I mean, I have never been to other restaurants that almost like understand my needs and passion? When I say ‘needs and passion’ I’m referring to glorious food in glorious portions. you see, they serve food in humongous amount. Just yesterday after a meeting, me and some office colleagues decided to do lunch in Ikea (after much persuasion from me). everyone agrees that they do serve a lot. They ended up not finishing their meal and as usual I ‘have’ to help. He he..

So the next time you are around Ikea in Mutiara Damansara, drop by the restaurant. Check out the 3 piece spicy chicken thingy-set meal. It’s huge! Yummy!

What did you have for breakfast?

Are you a big fan of pastries? If you live in Kuala Lumpur, I’m sure you would have come across places like ‘Bread Story’, ‘Bread Crumbs’ and ‘Loaf Story’. (Not sure whether they are from the same company). Those places sells interesting looking pastries and most of them come up with their own creation. They taste good! Why? Sugar and carbs of course! There was this one whole week when I had the Bread Story peanut butter bread thingy for breakfast. Man were they delicious! But if I do that for another few more weeks, it’s definitely going to have an effect on my ‘middle earth’ area. Not even a diet patch can help me by then.

If you would like to see weather or not you are a real pastry freak, see if you could eat these stuff I saw on MrBadak’s post. I’m sure some of you will get excited, or have to do breakfast all over again.. he he
