For those of you who are interested in doing your family tree or genealogy, here’s a good news. Now you can use one of the most powerful software for free! It’s called Family Tree Legend. All this while there are really no real freeware software for such a program. You normally have to purchase. Here’s your chance to map out your family tree!

Do you have multiple accounts from all the popular online chat software like Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, AIM and ICQ? Chances are you will download each of those chat software into your PC and install them. At the same time, you might need to login every time (if you share PC) or maybe set it to auto connect whenever you start your PC.

However I noticed that it does take some of my PC resources, so it does make my PC a little ’slower’ at times. So I decided to try some other ways to have all my chat thingy in one place. My favourites would be:

Meebo and Trillian

Meebo is a web based chat client which combines AIM, Yahoo, MSN and yes even Google Talk. You can login into individual account or sign-up with Meebo and instantly access all your chat account with one login. I also use this in my blog. It’s all web based so you can access your chat account anywhere. No downloads and no installation. It’s very light, and really user friendly. The main page itself is a login page. It’s 100% FREE too. You also get to create your own ‘Rooms’. The only downside I have using it is that when there are network interruptions, it will log you off and you need to reconnect manually. It also does not support your usual function like file transfer and audio or video chat.

Trillian is a little bit different. You need to download the software and install it. It supports ICQ,MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and AIM. It feels ‘light’ compared to MSN or Yahoo once running. Logging in once you set up your account is also quick. Just one double-click and you are connected almost instantly. It also supports file transfers, just like what you can do in your regular chat software. You can also do audio and video chat, but this one requires the PRO version for $25.00 for one year. You get all the important customer support for that one. Downside? Not really much. I prefer to use my own customized sound notifications. You know, like “Oi!” or “Wazzup!”. Still haven’t found out how to tweak that yet.

I think both of them have great features. I use both depending on situations. There might be other such softwares out there. Which ones do you prefer?
