How to experience Android on your PC

It’s free and you do not need to have too much technical background. If you know what is an e-mail and you used Whatsapp before, you are good to go.

  1. Install a software on your PC called ‘Bluestacks’. This is actually an Android emulator. Get it here
  2. If you have an error while installing the software due to compatibility issues, you can do a Google search for the term ‘bluestacks thin installer’ and try installing that version
  3.  Bluestacks allows you to use whatever app you have on your phone (if you plan to update it with your phone) however it will not synchronize your game levels, contacts etc
  4. To update contacts, export your Google contacts as VCF (the 3rd option in export contacts) and save it in ‘My Photos’ or something like that
  5. Go to Contacts in Whatsapp
  6. Click settings (bottom left)
  7. Select ‘Import/export’
  8. Select ‘Import from SD Card’
  9. Be fabulous and receive your best high school class rings

Now everyone can Karaoke in bed with Android

Can’t get enough of your karaoke sessions? For those Sabahans who resides around the Klang Valley, you know where to go for some Sabah style Karaoke session right? With all the Kadazan/Dusun songs included in their list of songs, it’s always ‘Aramai Tih’ be it weekdays or weekends at this place called ‘Bamboo Sound Wave’.

I’m not here to talk about karaoke sessions outside, this is personal, indoor and seriously comfy Karaoke session that you can do right underneath your comforter be it alone or with your spouse or someone else s. I found this app called ‘MKaraoke’ from the Android Market. This is a Karaoke player that will enable you to sing Karaoke songs using your Smartphones.

Please bear in mind that this app is just a player. Don’t expect a song to come out from nowhere. Here is what you need to do.

  1. Go to Android market and search for MKaraoke
  2. Install it in your Android smartphone
  3. Now you need to search for MIDI files that has LYRICS in it
  4. Best place to do that is this website at http://www.vanbasco.com/
  5. you will notice that website also has a Karaoke Player for pc

Don’t expect to be able to edit the APP background and having some lady in a sexy cheerleader outfit. The PC version from Vanbasco sure can :)

The end of the road for Google Buzz

Goodbye Google Buzz. You will not be missed. Maybe a little.

Flashing the phone

CM7-Gingerbread Defy
I think I have flashed my phone like 6 times since the day I bought it. The stock ROM for the Motorola Defy for Malaysia is not that appealing to me. Good thing about the Android platform or the other platforms, you will have a huge community of hackers, modders and the like who are into making their phone unique and running according to their taste.

The downside is long hours at night due to trial and error. I’m not an expert so whenever my phone got stuck in boot, I had to do the whole process all over again. :P Kinda like the “business life insurance needs calculator” situation where people are staying overnight in the office running some numbers.
