Food Experience #14
Has anyone here tried ‘nasi padang’ before? It’s an Indonesian dish that I believe originated from the the city in west Sumatra called…well what do you know? ‘Padang’! I had the opportunity to try the special dish a few weeks ago. But the setup is not in a village but rather in a restaurant. Quite classy too I might say.

The restaurant is called Restoran Puti Bungsu Batam. Now Batam is actually an Indonesian island close to Singapore. Anyway, let’s talk about the food. This was my first time trying out Nasi Padang. We planned to check the place out at the last minute actually. We just took a turn instead of the usual restaurant we frequent.

Now this cuisine is very unique. What they would do is to bring out little plates of dishes and lay it all out on the table. People like me will go like, wow! However, you don’t have to eat it all. You only choose the ones that you want to eat. Now the rule is, as long as you don’t touch the other food, you are not charged for it. It’s really interesting. Of course it’s weird too. Having all those little plates there while we eat somewhat makes me think of cleanliness… hmm

If you happened to be in Kuala Lumpur, head over to Jalan Yap Kwan Seng. It’s just next to Restoran Kampung Pandan. The building itself was a former Auntie Nat restaurant from my previous post.
