Kotobian Tadau Tagazo do Kaamatan

For us people of Sabah, the KadazanDusun, Muruts, Rungus and more…, we are celebrating the Harvest Festival or in Bahasa Malaysia, Pesta Menuai between 30th and 31st May every year. It’s a celebration that marks the end of a good harvesting season, the padi. The celebration is to give respect and thanksgiving to the GODS of the padi or the ’semangat’.

One thing that I missed a lot is the rice wine or ‘tapai ‘ and other fermented drinks that is a must during the celebration and also the ‘Unduk Ngadau’ or the Harvest Queen. If you need more clarification on this, my buddy PaPaJoneh posted about the Harvest Festival and his explanation is I believe are more better compared to mine. Oh by the way, someone actually compiled a whole list of the Harvest Queen since 1960-2004! Check out the Unduk Nagadau’s. Cool lah. Any Sabahan reader here who’s grandma was an ex Harvest Queen?

So, for all my Sabahan buddies who are in Sabah right now, please drink responsibly and do remember your comrades who are not in Sabah (including me) right now because we really miss home….sob..sob

*The photo below is not an Unduk Ngadau
