Malay Wedding
Malaysia is blessed with a great and diverse cultural mix. Based on a 2004 estimated statistics, figures are as such: Malay 50.4%, Chinese 23.7%, Indigenous 11%, Indian 7.1%, others 7.8%. Malaysia is also a country that practices freedom of religion and is a democratic country.
I had the opportunity to attend a colleague’s wedding ceremony. Me and wifey came a little too early. It was held somewhere in Shah Alam, near the PDRM SMS Complex. (Don’t ask me what that SMS means, I don’t know either). We were just about to leave when his dad told us that he is just about to arrive. I think it is what they call the ‘berarak’ where the couple are escorted by family members accompanied by the ‘Kompang‘, a traditional ‘hand drum’ musical instrument usually made from goat skin.
The Malay wedding consist of a few customs. It goes through few basic process which are generally Bethrotal, Akad Nikah and Bersanding. Well I got this from the Wikipedia page for Malay_wedding anyway.
So a very BIG congratulations to Abdul Rahman Bin Yacob and his lovely wife Siti Salmah Binti Abu Kasim. I wish you both to be happy for the rest of you wonderful life!
Here’s a low resolution video of the ‘Berarak’ thing. Cool eh?
