New Hotel just next to One Utama Shopping Complex (One World Hotel)

Last night, I attended an award gala dinner at the One World Hotel next to One Utama. The place was very nice. A touch of classic and modern look. The ballroom was also huge. There was like more than 1000+ people and the actual ballroom was split into half since there was another function next door. When opened up, this ballroom of theirs would definitely fit more than 2000+ people.

I was just more excited on the entertainment side of the function. Outside we have this group (forgot their name) which comprised of a three piece band. Bass, acoustic guitar and bongo. Nice harmony from these folks. Both guitarist were using portable guitar and bass guitar amps. Pretty nifty. Powered by batteries too! Too bad I did not manage to get the brand name of those amps.

The food served that night was not as fantastic as I imagined though. The award ceremony went well. However at one point, after clapping so much, it felt as if I was in a graduation announcements ceremony. Hmm.. strange.

But the band that was going to play on stage was some familiar faces. I met the guitarist / vocalist outside the function room. It’s Mr Gerard Singh! I’ve seen him play in Waikiki’s bar in Petaling Jaya with Bala and gang. I can see he was using a Roland Jazz Chorus. (looks like the JC120 model to me) Too bad it takes a while to wait for them. By the time they were playing, it was already late and most folks were ready to leave. I had to leave too. But I could see some small crowd dancing near the stage as the band was playing a number from Santana. Oh by the way, the lady singer was awesome too. She sang the song ‘you’re simply the best’ from Tina Turner. Great voice!
