Pulau Perhentian Dive Trip (Final Part)

Perhentian IslandFirst part here, second part here.

We had like an hour or so before the second dive. We were freaking hungry and we headed straight to a nearby restaurant for lunch. Everything just tasted so good after each dive. A friend mentioned and I did some checking too that when a person scuba dives, a total of 1000 calories are burned doing 3 dives. That’s like 300+ calories burned per dive. (Average dive time varies 40-45 minutes or more)

Now the second dive of the day was a real charmer. We were going to discover a shipwreck! I feel like humming to the tune of Pirate’s of The Caribbean OST, He’s a Pirate. The dive site is called Sugar Wreck.

The ship was originally a cargo ship that mainly transported sugar (hence the name), original name was MV Unistar 17. It’s port of call was somewhere in Indonesia. The ship’s length is 78m and it’s beam (width) is 12m

I took that part from MUW forum.

The dive turned out to be good! Our visibility was as far as 15 metres. There was bit of current but nothing heavy. We saw lots of species of fishies that I can’t remember. ha ha.. and boy that is one huge ship! I did not realize it as we descend via the buoy line. But once near the bottom, and when I got a little further to have a better and wider view I couldn’t! it’s just freaking huge! It felt like you were in a Hollywood movie set. It’s so beautiful. Wish I could have brought my camera for this one..

Third and last dive was this place called batu layar. Saw lots of small stuff there. Nudy Branch and what not. Managed to try out my old G7 this time without much success. Blurry shots, terrible color some are OK but mostly are not. I need more practice or perhaps a new camera model?? :D

Overall here is my summary:

Pulau Perhentian Kecil has one of the most beautiful sandy beach in Malaysia. Even the crowd are hot! All the tourist babes here looked so gorgeous! The place that we stayed called The Rock Garden, is decent I must say. You are staying on the hilly side facing the sea so you get one of the best views in the island. Downside? Not many will be happy with the uphill task of going back to your room especially when you forgot something important while you are at the beach! Also.. if time is what you don’t have, ordering a meal from their kitchen may take more than the usual wait for a simple mee goreng.

Are you a diver? Then look no further for the Turtle Bay Divers. I think they are one of the best dive sites in Malaysia. I’m talking in terms of timeliness, safety, friendliness and their service. I hope to do more than just dive next year. Need more time to stroll the beach, smoke some cohiba cigars while on the beach with a beer on the other hand, get to know the locals, take some photos, hike, play and all sorts of other non-diving stuffs.

Until next year Sipadan! oops.. Perhentian.

P/S If you are a diver, try looking out for their resident Turtle. You would be able to recognize it since one of it’s legs are missing.
