Was my Aztech ADSL Modem / WiFi Router a bad choice?

advertisement

I have been having some problem with this little guy. Gone are the days when I can still be online while I’m sitting in my thinking room. I can’t be in the comfort of my living room watching the History Channel while surfing. Why? It’s because of my modem WiFi router which has been acting very strangely indeed.

Aztech Modem WiFi Router

I used to have problem with the internet line. It turned out that my phone connection port was oxidized to the max because of water leakage from the ceiling. And now, it’s the router. I can’t use the WiFi anymore since it keeps restarting by itself when I do that. When I connect directly which what I am doing now, it stays connected longer but at times it will still restart by itself again! Did I make a wrong choice by choosing this brand or was it the way I handled it? I never switched it off unless I am away from the house for more than a week. Tell me…why why!

(..maybe I should smack this unto a wall and see what happens?)

Aztech is a good brand…my school also use the same product..I used to have this problem…it turn out to be, the adapter was the problem..it seem that the adapter I used is not really compatible with my modem…but mine was a different brand than yours…better check with the shop where you buy your modem and ask them to test…if it is okay, then, somebody may sabotage your line…no la, just kidding…don’t slammed the modem yet…ask for professional technician…when coming to wireless stuff, I’m also blank…hope you can find the solution…

Funny thing is, I even called the Aztech folks in KL and they themselves were unable to help or give an answer.

Im using wifi router from aztech too and it works marvelous. the thing about self restart.. hmm.. never heard of it. Must be softwares inside your pc/laptop or something. the wifi should not be the problem. If it is.. yeah..go ahead… smacked on the wall or better.. call the technician.. and smack them for selling u faulty unit.

    Just kidding there :D
*** but if u go for it.. take picture ok ;)

I think I might as well get a new, heavy duty and expensive one. Those that you can on for 5 years and still no problem.

    Any brand suggestion boys?

Have you tried setting the ‘Preamble’ option on the wifi router to ‘Long’. This should come in 2 options, Long and Short. The later is suppose to be more for performance kinda a thing, the earlier is when you hit into problems on retaining a connection.

Big question would be, did the router restart or just the connection. If it’s the router, you might want to give it a hard reset. i.e. set it back to factory default.

If you have another wifi machine around you could try with that as well to see what happens.

Noel- I will try it tonight. See how it goes. But I can’t figure out those ‘preamble’ thingy….
Funny thing is, this morning, the modem is stable. And yeah, the restarting thing is the modem itself. It’s like it’s rebooting all by itself. Last night as this was happening, when I took out the phone line from it, it stops. Put it back and it goes all over again.

Then in that case setting that ‘Preamble’ thinggy won’t do a thing to help. A hard reset would be the way to go. Or upgrade the firmware … failing all that, pray that it’s still under warranty

waa… same router, same problem here!

I found out that only particular laptops connecting thru WiFi to the router gives that problem. I tried out my dad’s lappy and it stays there well but when it comes to my sis’ lappy, MAYHEM!!

Tried the hard reset but still no use. Guess really need to pray that it is under warranty. >.<
